Legal Counsel - External advisor

Frans de Weger is one of Europe’s most recognized sports lawyers, named in 2024 by the Lexology Index as one of the world’s leading practitioners in the field. With nearly two decades of experience in sports law, he has acted in hundreds of cases for the KNVB, UEFA, FIFA, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), covering disputes on contracts, transfers, training compensation, solidarity payments, and sporting sanctions. Appointed in 2015 by the European Club Association as the youngest Dutch CAS arbitrator ever, he was reappointed in 2023 for another four-year term. Since 2021, Frans has served as Chairman of FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, which rules on international employment and transfer disputes between players and clubs. He is also the author of The Jurisprudence of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber, a leading reference work on global football case law. Frans de Weger and his team at BMDW Advocaten support FANCAP as external advisors, providing specialized legal expertise in football-related transactions as part of FANCAP’s M&A advisory practice.
